Misc. Notes |
"Henry Dillingham was rector of the Church of England for a long time under Queen Elizabeth at Caftenbach, Leicesterhire, England. The family must have been of some note for Henry was Patron of the Benefice and in 1626 presented a priest. This Henry was probably the father of Edward, one of the grantees of Sandwich, from the fact that his oldest son bore the same name. I also notice in our records whenever the name of Edward appears it is always prefixed with the title of 'Mr.,' which is not the case with any of the original ten associates except Edward. The exact date of his coming to America is unknown, but is thought to be 1632. He was a resident of Lynn in 1636, and one of the grantees of Sandwich, where he settled in 1637. OWL MAR 1906 p 469. |
