| On the death of his father James I in 1552, he was 36 yo (b. 1515/6) and his wife Grace Butler was 27 (b. 1524/5) she was the dau & co-heir of John Butler of Rawcliffe. In his will of 1565 he mentions his 2nd wife Alice Standish. As a recusant widow she is shown on the rolls of 1586 & 1591/2. Hugh II died in 1566. Although his Inquisition post mortem does not mention holdings in Euxton, his eldest son James I Anderton of Clayton had the lease of the tithes of Euxton that James I of Euxton & Hugh II started in 1538. It is from this Hugh that the two estates were split. James his eldest son by Grace Butler inherited Clayton le Woods whereas his son by Alice Standish - William - eventually got the holdings and leases in Euxton.41 |
