| Scituate, eldest son of Nathaniel, born in Eng. came in the Hercules 1635, from Sandwich, with his father wh. was of Tenterden in Co. Kent, married 20 Nov 1649, Alice or Elizabeth d. of John Twisden, had Nathaniel, born Sept 1650; John, Dec 1652; Rebecca, Feb 1655; Joseph, 12 Feb 1657; prob. died young, as he is not ment. in the will of his father; Stephen, 14 May 1659; Samuel, 1660; Elizabeth 1665; Lydia, 1666; and Benjamin 1668, who died unmarried at 25 years. He was deac. and died in May 1670, leav. good est. by will of 12 of that mo. to widow Elizabeth and the eight ch. by name, and br. Stephen, and sis. Elizabeth Garrett. But of this last some doubt is felt, whether is mean more than Christian relationship, or perhaps the second wife of Richard G. wh. for his first, had Lydia, sis. of this testat.197, v4p301 1796. Dea. Joseph Tilden. Born ca 1615 in England. Joseph was baptized in Tenterdon, Kent on 20 Apr 1615. Joseph died on 3 Jun 1670 in Scituate, MA.21 Religion: Second Church of Scituate. Joseph was on the roll of those that bore arms in Scituate in 1643. "Dea. Joseph succeeded to his father's residence on Kent street. He bolonged to the 2d. Church, of which he was chosen Deacon 1655: and of course he belonged to the liberal or moderate class of Puritans."21 On 20 Nov 1649 Joseph married Alice Twisden, daughter of John Twisden, in Scituate, MA.16 "Joseph Tilden married to Ellice Twisden November the 20^th 1649".
