I think I now have proof that Lyman and Catherine lived at Otisco, Onondaga Co. NY in 1830. The census shows that the household included the following people. All of them fit.
1 male (age 0 to 5) would be Samuel
1 male (age 5 to 10) would be Joel
1 male (age 30 to 40) would be Lyman
1 female (age 0 to 5) would be Catherine
1 female (age 5 to 10) would be Sally Ann
1 female (age 20 to 30) would be Catherine

The 1850 census shows:
Highland township, Oakland Co. MI pg 173
Lyman Johnson age 50 farmer b. CT
Catherine Johnson age 47 b. CT
Oscar Johnson age 23 b. CT
Mariah Johnson age 21 b. NY
Willis Johnson age 19 b. NY
Lyman Johnson age 16 b. NY
Leonard Johnson age 12 b. NY
William Johnson age 7 b. NY

The first thing that I look at here is the birth place of Oscar. According to our records Lyman and Catharine were married in Fairfield Co. CT in 1821. Oscar would have been born in 1827 in CT. That means that they moved to NY between 1827 and 1830. Maybe back to the birthplace of Catharine. But how did Catharine get to Fairfield CT ? Maybe Samuel traveled a lot.
