"The Indentity of Robert and Ann Peck, Wards of elder William Brewster in Leyden in 1610. -- Elder William Brewster, born about 1566, was the son of William and Prudence Brewster. In 1610 he and his wife, Mary, had living with them as wards, Robert and Ann Peck, brother and sister, from Launde (see Willison's "Saints and Strangers")
Marriage registers at Sutton cum Lound, Notts., which lies about three miles south-east of Scrooby ( the home of Elder Brewster), include: "At Lounde: 15 June 1589 - Robert Pecke and June Jenyver".
This Robert Pecke may be he who lived in Everton, Notts., about two miles north of Lounde, whose will, dated and proved in 1598, is preserved at York. It States: "I Robert Pecke of Everton, husbandman,... my body to buried in the churchyard of Everton... I five the poor of Everton 3/4. I give William Pecke my son 7/6/8. I give George Pecke, my son , the same. I give Ann Pecke my daughter the same. I give Thomas Hodgson 10/- bequeathed to my mother. I give Thomas Sympson half a rood of Rye. I give Hercules Moore 12d. I give Robert Pecke my eldest son a couple of black stears. I give Prudence my wife and Robert my son all residue and make them executors. I make Richard Perkin guardian of my son Robert during his minority. Witness Anthony Phan, clerke, Richard Harrison, and William Fletcher".
It seems quite possible from the forgoing that the above testator, Robert Pecke, married (perhaps secondly) Prudence, who may wll have been sister of Elder William Brewster; their two children, Robert and Ann, appear to have been elder Brewster's nephew and niece, and wards in 1610.648, v111p319 |
