Lieut. Joseph, son of Jeremiah Jr. and Elizabeth Johnson married Margaret Harger, daughter of Samuel and Hannah (Stiles) Harger Jan. 24-1717, she was born Dec. 6-1695. Lieut. Joseph Johnson's was one of the first four families to live in what is now Seymour, Conn. In 1720 he bought a house from Abraham Pierson on South Main St. where he resided which place his son Joseph Jr. sold to Ebenezer Terrill Whittemore in 1776, occupied by Martin R. Castle in 1902. Lieut. Joseph Johnson died in Derby in 1761. his wife Margaret died in Derby, in 1774.

Conn. Colonial Records, vol. 9, pp. 49. "Joseph Johnson appointed Ensign of 1st Train band in Derby, 1744." (pp. 515.) "Mr. Joseph Johnson confirmed Lieut. of 1st Train band and Joseph Hulls, Captain."

New Haven Probate Records, vol. 9, pp. 531, gives the Will of Lieut. Joseph Johnson. "To wife Margaret land on Meeting House Hill, Derby, bounded east and west on Highways, north by land of Charles French and south on her own land 2 1/2 acres. Also use of a piece of land on south end of Sentinel Hill at the place of the old Fulling Mill in Derby: contains about 8 acres, also my former house lot lying east of the new fence south to the Brook: also lot lying south of House lot in bounds of Milford, the above House Lot lies in Derby at a place called Burnt Swamp. To son Joseph, 2 pieces of land on Meeting House Hill, bounded southeast on Joseph's land, north on Glebe Lot, northwest on Highway, 1/2 acre and also 3/4 an acre."

New Haven Probate Records, vol. 10, pp. 22, from Inventory of Lieut. Joseph Johnson's estate. "4 1/4 acres on Meeting House Hill, Derby, called Coggsall's orchard, 3/4 acre at North End. 1761."
